GENOM
Vizualna metaforika, polna barvnih užitkov, v sebi skriva bogatost intimnih subjektivnih pogledov in doživetih trenutkov. Če se prepustimo tem trenutkom, se nam odpro vrata v intimen svet, v katerem niso več pomembne banalne vsakdanjosti, čas drugače teče in svet pred nami dobi nov smisel.

GENOME
Each living creature on this planet (and most likely in the whole universe) has a code – the genome which determines its physical properties. These characteristics are being passed on in various combinations from generation to generation and are some kind of legacy from our ancestors. However in spite of this imperative which has been placed in every cell of our body this doesn’t imply that our life has been predetermined. The genome only defines our form and not necessarily the contents of our lives.
In her work Duša Jesih engages in a disciplined process of creating and exploring, constantly striving to improve her painting methods and techniques. Her artistic style, which exhibits a particular world view, is on this occasion focused on the rich realm of forms. Intertwined with her experience it enshrines a shrewd pondering on the widely-held critical views about our own essence and the problems of our own particular space and time. She is aware of things and phenomena that surround her and translates them into paintings. Her canvases are made in a mixed technique of acrylic painting combined with computer graphics which serve as a tool to use fragments of her own paintings and drawings to create collages. These paintings seem like portraits of time and space; gene units which form a whole, the “genome”.
The technique of collage and assemblage is a legacy of the avant-garde movements of the previous century. The artist develops them further with implementing drawing and painting by means of modern technologies. The work of Duša Jesih is not about reproducing reality, it is about re-discovering reality by means of her techniques, realising it by endowing the work with her own subjective vision.
“Genome” is a cycle of personally engaged paintings. It is a record of inner thoughts, sequences and mythologies spread on a surface. The artist’s painting and drawing interventions break down the fixed order in the painting and bring out spontaneity and elusiveness, qualities which people exhibit in their appearance and in the undetermined aspect of their being.
The visual imagery, rich with delightful colour, hides an abundance of intimate visions and bygone moments within itself. If we abandon ourselves to these moments a door to an intimate world free of everyday banalities will open, where time has a different pace and where the world gains a new substance.
